A complain was lodged on the alt.fan.pooh newsgroup that Piglet-only t-shirts were no longer being produced, or at least not readily available in catalogues and stories. Someone suggested that "... maybe we should form the Very Small Animal Protection Society.<G>". Below is the continuing story once the Hundred Acre Wood friends got ahold of the idea.
"The Very Small Animal Protection Society." Piglet liked the sound of that, and checked the notice for an address to send his dues. He couldn't find one, so being an Educated Animal (since he is the one who gets to hide in Christopher Robin's shirt pocket when he goes to school), Piglet put his money back in his Haycorn Jar and went off to visit his friend Owl to ask his advice.
"You say, little Piglet, that there was no address on the notice?" Owl asked. "I'm a rather Small Animal, too, and would like to join this Society. But without an address to Mail something to, how can we join?
"I don't know, Owl. That's why I asked you," Piglet thought, but being a Polite Very Small Animal, he chose to keep his thoughts inside. Instead, he came up with another idea that was perhaps the best idea he had had that day, and this he said aloud. "Maybe we could make our own 'Very Small Animal Protection Society' and make this the 'Hundred Aker Wood Chapter'. You can I could be the first members, and Roo will certainly. And I bet Rabbit's relations, especially the small ones, will join us. What do you think, Owl?"
"That's a splendid idea, Piglet. I'm glad I thought of it. Quick, go tell everyone, and have them send their Dues to The Six Pine Trees. We have an address, unlike those other people who haven't the decency to tell us where to send our money." Owl was so excited he flapped his wings several times and blew Piglet across the room and pinned him against Owl's wall.
Piglet was no longer sure he was doing the Right Thing by starting a chapter of the Very Small Animal Protection Society, especially if Owl was going to get excited at their regular monthly meetings and start blowing the members across his room.
I'd appreciate any comments, both positive and negative (but preferably constructive if they're negative) about this story or my writing style. I can be reached at Wstoler@aol.com.
